It’s Feelings Week, and tonight we’ve got more true or false for you. I'll say something, and you give us a thumbs up if it’s true (SFX TRUE) or thumbs down if it’s false. (SFX FALSE)
Here’s your first one:
Kids only have little feelings!
So is that true or false? Do kids only have little feelings?
The answer is…FALSE. Kids can have BIG FEELINGS.
I’ll tell you more after you switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth, and brush the molars in the back, too.
Big feelings are strong feelings. That come on very quickly and BLOW UP like a balloon! (SFX ballon blowing up) Feeling upset, angry, frustrated, jealous, or scared can be big feelings. (SFX growls) They are BIG when they feel like they take up all our space and are difficult to shake off our bodies.
But we can always try to shake them off. (SFX how?) We can count to three, breathe in and oiut slowly, and talk about these big feelings with our grown-ups. We can also just ask for a hug!
Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth, and don’t brush too hard.
Here’s your next true or false.
You CAN’T have different feelings at the same time.
So is that true or false that you can’t have different feelings at the same time - all at once?
The answer is…False! (SFX False)
We CAN have different feelings all at once!
Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and brush your front teeth, too.
For example, we can feel different big feelings at the same time (SFX) - we can feel bad, AND sad.
We can also feel mixed feelings (SFX huh?) - these are feelings that we feel at the same time but that are VERY different. Like .. we can be excited about a trip! (SFX yayyy) But scared about going somewhere we’ve never been (SFX cold teeth). Mixed feelings can feel confusing, but remember, feelings come and go (SFX up and down) and we can try to talk them out or just enjoy them for what they are.
That's it for Chompers today, but come back tomorrow for more feelings. Until then,
