>> Rachel: It’s Inventors Week, and tonight we’ve got the answer to the quiz (SFX QUIZ) from this morning.
Our question was :
Which of these things was invented by a kid? (SFX KIDS)
Was it
The Trampoline? (SFX BOING)
The Ice Cream Maker (SFX SLURP)
OR
The Flushing toilet? (SFX FLUSH)
Ready for the answer? First, switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth, (SFX SWITCH) and give me a drumroll by stomping your feet (SFX drumroll)
The answer is….the Trampoline (SFX BOIOIOIOIOING)
When George Nissen was a teenager, he went to the circus and saw trapeze artists flying through the sky, doing tricks on their swinging trapezes. (SFX) When the trapeze artists would fall, (SFX) they would bounce into a safety net below. (SFX) That gave George an idea.
Switch to bottom of your mouth, and brush the molars in the way back
George went home and started working on his invention in his parents garage. (SFX) George was a gymnast, so he worked with his coach to make the world's first “bouncing rig” -- what would later become the trampoline! (SFX BOING)
And their invention was a big hit! Trampolines became popular with other gymnasts all over the world, and today there’s even a sport in the Olympics called Trampolining.
Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and brush your front teeth too.
The Trampoline isn't the only thing that a kid has invented.
Earmuffs, swim flippers, toy trucks and popsicles were all invented by kids.
Do you have a great idea? Maybe YOU’RE the next great inventor!
That’s it for Chompers tonight, great job brushing! Come back tomorrow for more ingenious inventions, and make sure you rinse before you
>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!
