>> Rachel: Good evening poets! It’s time for Chompers, your twice daily toothbrushing show.

Start brushing on the top of your mouth on one side, and brush the molars in the way back too.

>> Kids: 3, 2, 1 brush!

>> Rachel: It’s Poetry Week, and tonight we’ve got more riddles about types of poetry

Here’s your first riddle:

Morning is coming and I can’t wait

The horizon is about to be lit

I’ll wait at the window with my pen at the ready

When dawn comes I’ll write about it.

What’s this type of poetry?

(SFX HUH)

It’s a tough one -- I’ll tell you after you Switch to the other side of the top of your mouth, and make little circles with your brush around each tooth.

That Poem was an AUBADE

>> KID: What?

>> Rachel: Aubades are poems about when morning comes, and are often about love. So the SUBJECT of an Aubade is the morning! (SFX rooster) The opposite of an aubade is a SERENADE. Serenades are songs or poems meant for nighttime. I guess Chompers is both a morning Aubade and evening serenade.

Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth, and give your tongue a brush, too.

Here’s your next riddle:

I am annoyed

I’ve got a lot to say

And you’re gonna hear it

When I write this way

Ok so a poem that sounds like complaining…What type of poem is this?

>> Group: A complaint!

>> Rachel: Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth and brush your front teeth!

Ok a poem where the poet is complaining is called a complaint! It might be about a relationship that didn’t work out, or about something in the world that the poet doesn’t think is right! So next time you’re annoyed about something, don’t complain…write a complaint!

Ok, that’s it for Chompers tonight!  Now it’s time to …
