But before we take off, start brushing on the top of your mouth on one side and brush the inside, outside and chewing side of each tooth.

We’re starting this week with a QUIZ! (SFX QUIZ) 

Ready? Here’s the question:

Which one of these places is NOT a country?

Is LESOTHO a country?

Is OAXACA a country?

Or 

Is Hungary a country?

To find out, let’s learn more about GEOGRAPHY! 

But first, switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth and keep brushing 

Geography is the study of the earth - its mountains, forests, rivers and oceans! Geography is also about how people live on it, and draw lines to shape things like countries and continents.  Countries often feel and look very different. Like the country of Brazil has beautiful rainforests, and Greenland has giant icebergs.

Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and brush the molars in the way back

There are a lot of countries in the world. Some are really big (SFX TUBA) while others are teeny tiny (SFX DING). The biggest one is Russia. It’s about twice as big as the United States. And, the smallest country is the Vatican City State. It’s actually INSIDE another country

>> Kid: Huh? 

>> Rachel: Yeah! The Vatican City State is a country inside of Italy. And it’s very, very small. It would take you about 20 minutes to walk across it.

Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and brush your front teeth too. 

Other countries - like Canada, France, and Pakistan - are divided up into smaller areas too, but they use different names for their states, like province, district, or department!

 So now that we know a little more about countries around the world, it’s time to make a choice.

Which of these is NOT a country? 

Lesotho?

Oaxaca?

Or 

Hungary?
