>> Rachel: It’s History Week. And today we’re taking our pretend time machine to EUROPE!

Here’s your first travel in time:

[TIME MACHINE LANDS]

I’ve landed in Ancient Greece! Gosh, the weather is warm and sunny. I should have brought sunscreen.

>>TIME MACHINE: Here you go Rachel!

>> Rachel: Oh, thanks time machine! All right, I see a man talking to a group of younger people. They’re asking him questions about how to treat patients. He seems to be the wise guy!

So time machine, tell me - who is this man?

>>TIME MACHINE: Hippocrates.

>> Rachel: Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> Rachel: -and brush your molars in the way back, too.

Hippocrates was a Greek doctor and is now called the "father of medicine". In Ancient Greece, people used to believe that if you got sick it was because their gods were angry. Historians believe that Hippocrates was the first person to say that people got sick for a different reason. He showed that our health depends on how WE treat our bodies and on what’s around us.

Hippocrates is still celebrated by doctors today.

Switch to the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> Rachel:  and give your tongue a brush, too.

Let’s go to our next place in time!

[TIME MACHINE LANDS]

Everyone on the crew of this ship is strong and they all have long red and blond hair, and the men have long beards.

SO Who are these guys?

>> TIME MACHINE: VIKINGS!

>> Rachel: Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth…

[SWITCH BELL]

>> Rachel:  -but don’t brush too hard.

The Vikings were from Scandinavia, countries like Norway and Sweden. They sailed huge distances from their home to other countries in Europe. They were famous for being fierce warriors and many people feared them. They would sometimes trade things like honey or wool. And they invented things we still use today, like the comb, tents, and sailing tools.

[THEME SONG BEGINS]
