>> Rachel: Good morning! It’s time for Chompers, your twice daily toothbrushing show.

It’s Sounds Week, and today we’re spying on the animal kingdom. Animals use sound for many things like warning each other of danger, or to find their mates!

Start brushing on the top of your mouth on one side, and brush the molars in the way back too.

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 brush!

>> Rachel: Here’s your first I spy:

I’m in Madagascar, in a rainforest! Surrounded by trees and beautiful birds. I see a black and white furry animal -- it looks like a monkey! It’s belting out the same tune over and over again (SFX male tune). And now I see another one! It’s howling another tune in response to the first one (SFX female tune).

Switch to the other side of the top of your mouth, and make little circles with your brush around each tooth.

So, What do I spy?

>> GROUP: An Indri!

>> Rachel: The Indri is a type of LEMUR -- which is an animal. It’s well known for its singing.

When an Indri finds a partner, they stay together for life … and their songs become CALL AND RESPONSE. One Indri sings something, and the other indri responds, like this. (SFX indri call)

Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and give your tongue a brush too

Here’s your next one:

I’m in the Arctic -- it’s cold, and snowy, and I see a large animal. It has whiskers on its face and flippers that help it move around. It’s making this lonnnnnnnnnnnnng sound that starts out VERY HIGH and gets VERY LOW.

What do I spy?

>> GROUP: A bearded seal!

>> Rachel: Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and brush your front teeth too.

Bearded seals sing their songs deep under the water. Scientists think that when a boy seal is looking for a girl seal, it will ”sing” -- and that the girl seals like the boy seals with the lonnnnnnnnnngest songs BEST! So the boys have to sing the most EXTRAORDINARY and looooong tunes if they want to meet a girl. Here’s what it sounds like:

(SFX bearded seal male call / bubbles)

>> Rachel: Still going...That’s it for Chompers today, but come back tonight for more Sounds I Spies. Until then,

>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit.
