[THEME SONG BEGINS]
Welcome back, it’s time for Chompers, your morning and night toothbrushing show.
Its Teeth week, and tonight our friend Jasmine has more answers to your questions for Dentist Dr Samantha Ifil. Jasmine let’s go!
>>JASMINE: Thanks! Hey Chompions, start brushing on the top of your mouth on one side, and make sure to brush the inside, outside and chewing side of each tooth.
Now count us off Dr Ifil.
>>DR. IFILL: 3, 2, 1 Brush!
[THEME SONG ENDS]
>>JASMINE: Lily asked why does the toothpaste at the dentist taste different than the toothpaste we use at home?
>>DR. IFILL: We actually don’t use toothpaste to clean your teeth. We use a special polishing paste which adds fluoride, as well as polishes your teeth and makes them nice and shiny.
>>JASMINE: So Ian wants to know, how can you tell if someone doesn't brush their teeth?
>>DR. IFILL: there's a lot of plaque that accumulates on your teeth. And plaques that dull, pasty film on your teeth that accumulates when you don't floss and brush.
>>JASMINE: Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth…
[SWITCH BELL]
>>JASMINE: and keep on brushing. Taylor asked, Why do teeth turn yellow instead of pink or blue If we don't brush them?
>>DR. IFILL: So teeth turn yellow if you don't floss and brush because then plaque accumulates and plaque originally is white but then if it stays there for a long period of time then it starts to get stained by the food that we eat and drink. And so eventually that white plaque will become discolored.
>>JASMINE: Switch to the bottom of your mouth…
[SWITCH BELL]
>>JASMINE: and molars all the way in the back!
So if I ate nothing but strawberries and beets and red colored foods in theory would the plaque turn pink
>>DR. IFILL: In theory (laughs)...in theory possibly. I have yet to see a patient that's had a diet of strictly beet strawberries and berries but maybe they did possibly who knows
>>DR. IFILL: : (Laughter)
>>JASMINE: Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth. And brush those front teeth too.
Do dentists ever get cavities?
>>DR. IFILL: Sometimes we do, even if we floss and brush everyday, sometimes you still can get cavities like everyone else.

>>JASMINE: That’s it for chompers tonight. Special thanks to Dr Samantha Ifil at Garden Dental Arts in Brooklyn. All you have to do now is…
>>DR. IFILL: 3, 2, 1 SPIT!
