(QUIZ SFX)
Which type of train can go as fast as some types of airplanes?
Is it
A steam engine train (SFX TOOT TOOT)
A subway train (SFX DING-DONG)
Or
A maglev train (SFX ETHEREAL HOVER)
Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth -- but don’t brush too hard!
To help you find the answer, we better explore these three types of trains.
The first train was invented in the 1800’s. Those trains were STEAM ENGINE TRAINS. Because they ran on STEAM power. (SFX TOOT TOOT)
Have you ever seen a tea kettle start to boil (SFX KETTLE)? The STEAM that comes out of a tea kettle’s spout is just like the steam that powers steam engine trains.
Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth, and make sure you’re brushing the inside, outside, and chewing side of each tooth.
So is a steam engine the fastest type of train? Or is it a subway train?
The trains that people use to get around their cities -- like to go to work -- are often called subways.
When they were first built, they were called subways because a lot of those trains traveled underground, and sub means under. So SUB way.
Switch your brushing to the other side of the bottom of your mouth. Keep making those brushing circles on each tooth!
Now let’s learn about Maglev trains.
The name of this type of train comes from combining two words -- MAG from MAGNETIC and LEV from LEVITATION MAGNETIC LEVITATION. LEVITATION means to FLOAT -- and that’s exactly what a maglev train does. It uses magnets to make the train float on the track. Come back tonight to find out which of these trains is as fast as some airplanes!
