Tonight we’ve got an answer to our SPACE RIDDLE from this morning!
When the sky is dark and starry
And you want to look at space
You gaze into my lenses
To see a distant place
What am I?
>> KIDS: A Telescope!
>> Rachel: Telescopes are used to help people see things that are too far away to see with just your plain old eyes.
Switch your brushing to the other side of the top of your mouth (SWITCH SFX). Make sure not to brush too hard though.
Telescopes can come in all sizes, from small ones, the size of an umbrella, to giant ones, that are bigger than a school bus! (SFX HONK HONK)
There’s even a telescope in space! The Hubble Space Telescope orbits around the earth, taking pictures of outer space. (SFX Picture/selfie).
Switch your brushing to the bottom of your mouth (SWITCH SFX), and make sure you’re reaching allllllll the way back to your molars!
This planet is too far away
To see with just your eyes
It’s cold and blue and gassy
And very large in size
What planet is this?
>> KIDS: Neptune!
>> Rachel: Neptune is so cold because it’s at the very end of the solar system, far away from the warmth of the sun. The only time we’ve ever sent a spacecraft to Neptune it took 12 years to get there!
Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth and don’t forget those front teeth!
Here’s another riddle:
This happens in a thunderstorm
A big electric bolt
But it also happens out in space
And gives a shocking jolt
What is it?

Scientists think they’ve found evidence of lightning happening on Saturn … the Cassini spacecraft observed it … and here’s what they think it sounds like.
