>> Rachel: Hey, are you ready for more Chompers? Your morning and night toothbrushing show?
>> Kids: Yeah!
>> Rachel: Well … good. Because here we are! Back with more Money Week. But first, start brushing on the top of your mouth on one side, and give your tongue a quick brush too!
>> Kids: 3 2 1 brush!
>> Rachel: Tonight we're playing What’s That Sound. We will play a sound for you, and you have to guess what it is.
Here’s your first one!
SFX CACHING
Probably sounds familiar huh? You’ve heard it a few times this week on Chompers. But we’ll play it again just in case.
SFX CACHING
What’s that sound? Shout it out:
>> GROUPS: A CASH REGISTER!
>> Rachel: Switch to the other side of the top of your mouth (SFX), and make sure to reach the molars in the way back.
A cash register is where a store keeps money. When you buy stuff, you give your money to the cashier and they put it in the cash register. If you give the cashier more money than your stuff costs, the cashier will make change from the money in the cash register.
We’ve been playing you the sound of a pretty old fashioned cash register. Most of the ones you see today don’t make this sound:
SFX CACHING + RACHEL SAYING “CA-CHING”
But lots of times people will make that sound to mean “a lot of money.” Next time someone gives you a dollar say CACHING! And see if they laugh! (SFX LAUGHTER)
Switch to the bottom of your mouth, and don’t forget those front teeth.
Here’s your next sound:
SFX COINS
Hmmm … what was that? Let’s hear it again.
SFX COINS.
So what do you think? What’s that sound? Shout it out!
>> GROUP: COINS!
>> Rachel: Switch to the other side of the bottom of your mouth, and keep brushing (SFX).
COINS are a type of money. In the United States the coins we use most often are for amounts of money less than a dollar. So a coin for 25 cents is called …
>> GROUP: A QUARTER!
>> Rachel: A coin for ten cents is called
>> GROUP: A DIME!
>> Rachel: A coin for five cents is called
>> GROUP: A NICKEL
>> Rachel: And a coin for one cent is called
>> GROUP: A PENNY!
>> Rachel: That’s it for Chompers tonight. Now all you have to do is
>> KIDS: 3, 2, 1 spit!
